World Youth and Teenage Singing Contest

The online competition of the World Youth and Teenage Singing Contest consists of three main sections: basic singing skills, including vocal pitch, rhythm, breath control, and singing posture; musical expression and cultural understanding, covering the interpretation of lyrics, emotional conveyance, and the cultural background of songs; and practical application of singing, including song adaptation, on-site improvisation, and the ability to perform in real-life scenarios. The competition includes various types of songs, and the level of difficulty is set according to age and singing experience, with the children's group emphasizing fundamental singing skills and the youth group placing more emphasis on musical expression, creative adaptation, and problem-solving abilities in singing.

Group Awards:

  • Outstanding Group Award

Award winners can request customized awards featuring the participant's name in Chinese or English.

 

Award Options:

The deadline for award applications is two weeks after the announcement of the results.

All awards will be mailed within eight weeks after the application deadline.

Awards and certificates will be sent via SF Express, cash on delivery.

Once the awards are signed for, no replacements will be issued in case of damage or loss.

The organizers are not responsible for failed deliveries due to incorrect information or communication difficulties.

Competition Guidelines:

1. Performance Basics

Technical Skills: Pitch accuracy, breath control, vocal range, articulation.
Repertoire Knowledge: Genres (classical, pop, folk) and iconic songs (e.g., operatic arias, global hits).
Musical Literacy: Rhythm, melody, and interpretation of sheet music or lyrics.
 

2. Artistic Expression & Cultural Context

Genre Analysis: Styles (e.g., Broadway belting, traditional ballads) and cultural origins.
Lyric Interpretation: Emotional storytelling and connection to song themes.
Modern Adaptations: Fusion of styles (e.g., K-pop with classical elements).
 

3. Practical Performance Application

Video Submission:

  • Live performance (no edits/lip-syncing), 1080p HD, clear audio.

  • Attire: Stage-appropriate; camera shows full body and facial expressions.

 

Repertoire Selection:

  • Children’s Group (8–12 yrs): 2–4 minute age-appropriate songs (e.g., Disney, folk).

  • Youth Group (13–18 yrs): 4–6 minute complex pieces (e.g., operatic arias, original compositions).

Improvisation: Youth Group only: Scat singing or melody variations on a provided theme.

4. Judging Criteria

  • Technical Proficiency (50%): Vocal control, pitch, dynamics.

  • Artistic Expression (30%): Emotional depth, genre authenticity.

  • Stage Presence (20%): Confidence, charisma, audience engagement.

 

Submission Rules:

  • One entry per participant; no AI-generated vocals.

  • Blind judging (anonymized videos).

5. Difficulty & Age Groups

  • Children’s Group: Focus on pitch accuracy and basic stage presence.

  • Youth Group: Advanced interpretation, genre blending, and improvisation.

6. Submission & Results

  • Deadline: Upload by [date] via official portal.

  • Results: Announced via email/social media within 3 weeks.

  • Prizes: Certificates, coaching, and performance opportunities.

Entry Requirements for the World Youth and Teenage Singing Contest (Online Submission & Jury Evaluation)
 

1. Performance Basics

Focus on vocal fundamentals and musical structure:

  • Technical Skills: Pitch accuracy, rhythm control, breath support, and singing posture.

  • Repertoire Knowledge: Familiarity with diverse genres (e.g., classical, pop, folk) and iconic works (e.g., Mozart arias, Beatles songs).

  • Musical Literacy: Understanding of sheet music (notes, dynamics, tempo) and vocal notation (e.g., legato, staccato).
     

2. Artistic Expression & Cultural Context

Explores lyrical interpretation and historical depth:

  • Genre Analysis: Origins and stylistic traits of music (e.g., operatic bel canto, traditional folk ornamentation).

  • Lyric Interpretation: Emotional delivery of songs (e.g., conveying longing in ballads) and connection to cultural/historical contexts (e.g., protest songs of the 1960s).

  • Modern Adaptations: Influence of contemporary music (e.g., K-pop, hip-hop) on traditional singing styles.
     

3. Practical Performance Application

Emphasizes live execution and creative skills:

  • Video Submission:

    • Live-recorded performances (no lip-syncing or pre-edited tracks), filmed to show full-body expression and facial emotions.

    • Attire: Stage-appropriate clothing; minimum 1080p HD quality with clear audio.

  • Repertoire Selection:

    • Children’s Group (8–12 yrs): Short songs (2–4 minutes) in genres like children’s folk or musical theater (e.g., Do-Re-Mi from The Sound of Music).

    • Adolescent Group (13–18 yrs): Complex works (4–6 minutes) including classical arias, jazz standards, or original compositions.

  • Improvisation Tasks: Adolescent Group must perform spontaneous vocal variations on a given melody (e.g., scat singing in jazz).
     

4. Judging Criteria & Format

  • Evaluation Areas:
